Ollech and Wajs have produced exceptional mechanical sports and diver's watches since the mid 1950's. The company philosophy still remains, to sell rugged but appealing watches, at affordable prices. In the 1960's the company sold watches by mail order direct from Switzerland, eliminating the middle men to keep prices low. This strategy ensured that expansion was rapid and it developed the Ollech and Wajs brand in Britain and the United States.
O&W watch's sturdy features stood the test of time and they became increasingly popular with the United States Military. Literally thousands of O & W watches were sold to troops in the Vietnam conflict. The most popular being the M-6 model which is truly value for money, enormously admired and available today.
In the 1980's, the introduction of cheap mass produced quartz watches, caused many Swiss manufacturers to drop standards, or produce off shore to save costs, but Ollech and Wajs resisted this temptation and continued to manufacture solid mechanical watches. The fashionable phase of the quartz watch is over and Swiss mechanical watches are now in high demand. Mass produced watches in Asia do not have the heart and soul that is engineered with the passion, science and tradition of Swiss watchmakers. Ollech and Wajs' excellence and Swiss craftsmanship has never been compromised.
Mr Albert Wajs is still hands on in his business with energy and enthusiasm, he continues with his passion for the design and creativity of superb military watches. Ollech and Wajs military and sports watches are still rugged yet appealing because of their expertly uncluttered designs. There is a model to suit all connoisseurs of fine Swiss mechanical watches. |
